Congratulations to Samuel Medas who is the first Guyanese to receive a Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Award.

Me & the Anointed Award Winning
Gospel Artiste, Samuel Medas

I have been listening to Samuel Medas’ music, which is inspired by God and of great quality, since I heard the song “Anything too hard,” in 2014. That is one of his songs on his inspiring 2014 album entitled, “This peculiar Journey.” This album was a tremendous blessing to me while I studied at the United Theological College of the West Indies (UTCWI) in Kingston, Jamaica. Medas’ music is one of the means through which God helped me to successfully achieve a 4 year Masters’ degree in 3 years and 5 awards including the "Student of the Year" (2016) Award. He is one of two Gospel artistes whose music I listened to frequently throughout that journey. I would often leave his music to play while I slept (a good practice for believers in Christ to engage in).

Moreover, I promoted Medas’ songs while I studied and engaged in pastoral ministry in Jamaica. I sang his song “The Truth” at two events including the Stokes Hall Circuit of Baptist Churches’ annual concert which was held at Moses Baker Baptist Church in Duckenfield, St. Thomas in 2015. Thanks to Sis. Kelly-Rae Wright of that church who is a Jamaican that took on the challenge of doing backup singing for me in Guyanese Creole. I am also grateful to Joniel Powell, Tara Johnson and Noelissa Spencer who also sang backup for me at the UTCWI Baptist Social. The fact that Medas’ videos provide the lyrics to his songs makes it easy for people to sing along.

In addition, I utilized Medas’ song in my Final Service at the UTCWI chapel on October 7, 2015. Thanks again to Joniel Powell and Tara Johnson who danced to Medas’ song “In my day” which featured Apostle Claude Brooks. When I sent the video of the dance in a Face Book message to Bro. Medas on April 24, 2016, he responded the next day by saying “this is beautiful.” Indeed, it was a beautiful dance to a profound song. It tied in wonderfully with my church service which was dedicated entirely to combating the modern day slavery known as Human Trafficking.

I pray that God will continue to bless Mr. Samuel Medas and all Guyanese Gospel singers who are glorifying God while making Guyana proud.
