Last
night I had the privilege of being present at a concert for the launching of
Saiku’s album, “You.” This concert was an historical event. It was the biggest
album launch by a Guyanese artiste. Over ten thousand persons turned up at the
National Park to support him. Rain came down several times during the event but
this did not deter persons from remaining until the end of the event.
The lineup of Gospel
performers were as follows:
1. Pex Band
2. Shawn English
3. Sean Sobers
4. Trice Anointed
5. Melissa Vandeyar
6. Trenacia Esseboom (A
Guyanese who resides in Barbados)
7. Eion Greaves (A
Guyanese who resides in USA)
8. Anil Azeez (A
Guyanese who resides in Trinidad)
9. Kester D
10. Solid Youth
11. Toisha Andrews (Saiku’s
wife)
2nd
Half
1.Kevin Downswell (From
Jamaica)
2. Earl Bishop featuring
Shawn English
3. Saiku Andrews
4. Prodigal Son (From
Jamaica)
5. Atta Boafo (African
Gospel Artiste)
Leading up to the album
launch was the “Pillow Could Speak” challenge where persons had to upload a
video of them singing the song. The person who sang the song the best was selected
to perform the song along with Saiku. Trishanna Mc Collins won the challenge
and performed with Saiku on stage. She did an excellent job (See my Tuesday, 28 March, 2017 article for more information on the
Pillow Could Speak Challenge).
The MCs for the event
were Jasmine Harris and Carson Jack who also did a great job. It was a night
filled with worship, praises unto God, and celebration of Saiku’s achievement.
Some pictures I took with my phone:
